Privacy Policy

This page explains what information this site collects, why, and what you can do about it. I’ve tried to write it the way I’d explain it to you across a table, without the fog. If something here is unclear, write to me and I’ll answer.

jacobnordby.com is run by Jacob Nordby and Manifesto Publishing House, Inc., 9169 W. State St., Ste #1984, Boise, ID 83714. When this page says “I” or “me,” that’s who it means.

What you give me

Forms. When you join the newsletter, request a book sample, or send a message, I receive what you type in: usually your name, your email address, and anything you write. The form also records your IP address, the time you sent it, and how you arrived at the page (for example, which ad, email, or website sent you).
Comments. If you comment on an article, your name, email, and comment are stored, and the comment appears publicly with your name.
Purchases. When you buy something directly from this site, payment is handled by Stripe. I see your name, email, shipping address, and what you ordered. I never see or store your full card number.

What’s collected automatically

Like most websites, this one uses cookies and similar tools to understand how people find it and use it.

Google Analytics tells me which pages people visit, how they arrived, and roughly where in the world they are. Google’s demographic reports are turned on, so Google may also estimate age ranges and interests from its own data.
The Meta Pixel tells Meta (Facebook and Instagram) that you visited, and, when it applies, that you signed up or made a purchase. That’s how I learn whether an ad actually reached the people it was meant for, and how I can show my work again to people who have already visited. When you fill in a form, the pixel also sends Meta a scrambled (hashed) version of your email address and first name, so Meta can match the sign-up to an account without seeing the details in plain text.
Google Ads measures whether my Google ads lead to visits and sign-ups, and can let me show my work again to people who have visited.
Google reCAPTCHA runs on the forms to keep out spam bots. It sends information about your browser and behavior on the page to Google.
Server logs kept by my web host record IP addresses and pages requested, for security and troubleshooting.

Your cookie choice

The first time you visit, a bar at the bottom of the page asks about cookies. If you’re in Europe or the UK, the Meta Pixel doesn’t load and Google doesn’t set analytics or advertising cookies unless you choose Accept. Everywhere else it loads by default, and choosing No thanks turns it off. Your choice is remembered for a year.

You can also adjust ad preferences directly with Meta and Google, or install Google’s Analytics opt-out add-on.

How I use it

To send what you asked for: the newsletter, a book sample, an order, a reply.
To tell you about new books, programs, and events. Every email has an unsubscribe link, and one click takes you off the list.
To understand what’s working on the site and in my advertising, so I spend my time and money on what actually helps people.
To keep the site secure and free of spam.

I don’t sell your personal information, and I don’t hand my email list to anyone.

Who else handles it

A handful of services help run this site, and each receives only what it needs to do its job:

Kubera Hosting hosts the website and its database.
Amazon Web Services (SES) delivers my emails. My email software may record whether a message was opened or a link was clicked.
Google provides Analytics, Google Ads measurement, reCAPTCHA, and some of the fonts on these pages.
Meta receives Pixel data, as described above.
Automattic (Akismet) screens comments and form entries for spam.
Stripe processes payments for anything bought directly from this site.
YouTube, Spotify, and Zoom power some embedded videos, audio, and event links. When you play or open them, those companies may set their own cookies.

Some of these companies store data outside your country, including in the United States.

How long I keep it

Newsletter details stay until you unsubscribe or ask me to delete them. Messages and form entries stay as long as they’re useful for replying to you. Order records stay as long as tax and accounting rules require. Analytics data is kept according to Google’s and Meta’s own retention settings.

Your rights

You can ask me to show you what I hold about you, correct it, or delete it. Write to jacob@jacobnordby.com and I’ll take care of it within 30 days.

If you live in the European Union or the UK, you also have the right to object to or restrict how your data is used, to take it elsewhere, and to complain to your local data protection authority. I rely on your consent for advertising cookies, and on my legitimate interest in running and improving this site for the rest. If you live in California or another US state with a privacy law, you have similar rights, and I’ll honor them the same way.

Children

This site isn’t meant for children under 13 (under 16 in Europe), and I don’t knowingly collect their information. If you believe a child has given me their details, let me know and I’ll delete them.

Changes and contact
